Job Description
To operate tractors and other farm machinery safely and efficiently in order to support land preparation, planting, spraying, harvesting, and general farm operations while ensuring proper care and maintenance of equipment.
Working Conditions
Outdoor field work in varying weather conditions
Long working hours during planting and harvesting seasons
May be required to work weekends during peak farm periods
Responsibilities
- Operate tractors for: Ploughing , Harrowing, Planting and seeding ,Spraying (fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides) and Transportation of farm inputs and produce
- Attach and detach farm implements (ploughs, planters, trailers, boom sprayers, etc.)
- Ensure correct calibration of equipment before field operations
- Work closely with the Field Manager to execute daily field activity plans
- Follow field maps, planting lines, and spacing instructions
- Support irrigation, land leveling, and soil preparation activities
- Conduct daily pre-operation checks (oil, water, tires, brakes, fuel levels)
- Clean and service machinery after use
- Report mechanical faults immediately
- Maintain a logbook for tractor usage, fuel consumption, and service needs
- Follow all farm safety procedures
- Use PPE when required (boots, gloves, overalls, masks for spraying)
- Ensure safe handling of chemicals during spraying operations
- Avoid damage to crops, irrigation lines, and farm infrastructure
Requirements
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent
- Certificate in Agricultural Mechanization or Farm Machinery Operation is an added advantage
- Valid Ugandan Driving Permit; Class G – For agricultural tractors and farm machinery, Class B or CM – Advantage (for farm pickups or light trucks)
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience operating tractors on a commercial farm
- Proven experience in Land preparation, Planting operations, Spraying using tractor-mounted boom sprayers, Hauling farm produce and inputs
- Experience with different implements (disc plough, harrow, planter, trailer) is required
- Good knowledge of farm machinery operation
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to follow instructions and field work plans
- Physically fit and able to work long hours during peak seasons
- Honest, responsible, and safety-conscious
- Ability to work in rural farm environments
