About Share An Opportunity Uganda

Share An Opportunity Uganda is a Christian Child centered Non- Governmental Organization that started her Community Development Interventions in 1991 as a small Save an Orphan Program. Our mandate is the expression of Christian Care to children in need irrespective of race, sex, nationality, and religious or political conviction. SAO U was registered in 2002 as an NGO by the Ministry of Internal Affairs Uganda, and it is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Uganda. SAO U has a Board of Trustees and Board of Directors who support the Secretariat to execute her mandate to the target population SAO U works with children, youth, and their communities in a number of selected locations in Eastern, Northern, and Central Uganda based on need and the likely effectiveness of SAO U’s operations. We are currently operating in seven districts of Abim, Buikwe, Mbale, Lwengo, Kalungu, Sironko, & Kabiramaido. We also previously had operations in Tororo, Bukedea, Luwero, Wakiso, Nakaseke, and Mukono districts.

Job Description

The driver will provide transport services, administrative and logistical support to staff and SAO U’s stakeholders in line with SAO Policies and Procedures. The role will be based in Napak District with frequent travel to Abim and other project areas in the region. The position reports directly to the Programme Area Coordinator. 

Responsibilities

  • Carry out per-travel inspection of vehicles and ascertain journey preparedness, notify the line manager accordingly (i.e., inspect the vehicle and establish its condition, i.e, oils, tyre pressure, indicators, etc.)

  • Review assigned travel schedules, plan, and document travel routing and timing.  

  • Transport SAO U staff and property to assigned locations in line with the approved travel plans.  

  • Carry out passenger and goods safety inspection and resolve any anomalies before travel.  

  • Maintain vehicle security before, during, and after travel and report on any identified anomalies in line with the vehicle policy.  

  • Maintain the cleanliness of SAO U vehicles in line with the Fleet Policy.   

  • Routinely check the vehicle for faults, carry out and document basic repairs, and promptly report major vehicle faults for management action.  

  • Carry out basic regular maintenance of the vehicles (i.e., refilling the vehicle i.e, coolants, battery water, hydraulic oil, and brake fluid).  

  • Take the Vehicle for servicing and repairs, monitor and report on the service provider’s work. 

  • Develop and submit weekly reports on the status of the vehicle, generator, and motorcycle.

  • Deliver, pick, and register all mails and parcels and make accountability for all mails and parcels delivered.  

  • Review user requirements, solicit financial advances in line with approved user requirements, and provide assistance in making purchases for goods required for an activity.  

  • Provide support in the acquisition of materials from stores for activities in the field. Translate in cases of foreign visitors and other visitors who do not know the local language.  

  • Support field activities (including photo update, CP and FAM message collection and delivery. 

  • Picking quotations from suppliers and other service providers.  

  • Participate in vehicle budgets and planning.  

  • Log both official and private mileages and provide accountability for fuel used.   

  • Making monthly reports on (vehicles, generators, and motorcycles).  

  • Check and update the validity of statutory requirements  (Vehicle logbook, insurance status, and driving license). 

Requirements

  • Ordinary Level Certificate. 

  • Demonstrate commitment to evangelical Christian values and principles. 

  • Problem Sensitivity: Ability to analyse issues and identify problems. 

  • Good Communication skills. 

  • Good interpersonal skills. 

  • High level of integrity. 

  • Basic mechanical skills 

  • Knowledge of the local language, Karamoja context, and experience working in similar settings. 

  • Prior experience working with an NGO or a government institution will be an added advantage. 

  • The job holder must have a valid driving permit, be a hardworking, spiritually mature born-again Christian, a focused and trustworthy individual who upholds a high sense of integrity, has awareness of child safeguarding, uphold accountability, and commitment to the vision, mission, values, and aspirations of SAO Uganda.
