Job Description

The Legal Manager will provide strategic and operational legal support to the organization, ensuring all activities comply with Ugandan law, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies. The role will oversee contract management, litigation, corporate governance, and provide advisory support for trade finance transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents relating to trade finance, corporate partnerships, and operational activities.
  • Provide legal advice to management and business units on regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee corporate compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Support structured trade finance transactions by reviewing documentation and mitigating legal risks.
  • Manage litigation and dispute resolution, liaising with external counsel as necessary.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and advise on potential impacts on the organization operations and trade finance practices.
  • Ensure legal records and documentation are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Participate in policy development and review to strengthen internal controls and operational governance.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on legal and compliance matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in corporate law, banking law, or financial services, with exposure to trade finance or export-related transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan legal frameworks, contract law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage contracts, legal risk, and corporate governance matters in a financial institution.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial and legal acumen with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
