Job Description

The Market Systems Development Specialist will work under the supervision of the Project Manager (Team Leader), supported by the Deputy Team Leader, and in close collaboration with the project team.
They will also coordinate and quality-check the work of international and local consultants as indicated by the Team Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design of market systems development interventions in the dairy and/or tourism sectors based on market assessments.

  • Coordinate planning, implementation, and monitoring of interventions through partnerships with private and public sectors.

  • Engage regularly with national and local stakeholders, including public and private actors.

  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure complementarity and workload balance.

  • Develop, analyze, and guide business models and scale-up strategies for interventions.

  • Support results measurement and M&E officers in maintaining the monitoring and results measurement (MRM) system.

  • Provide technical inputs for communications, field visits, and learning products.

  • Prepare inputs for reports and presentations for project management, donors, and stakeholders.

  • Serve as a technical resource and advisor on the market systems development approach.

  • Facilitate workshops, trainings, and events, adapting ILO materials to the local context.

  • Ensure gender equality and women’s economic empowerment are central to all project activities.

  • Invest in personal upskilling in the MSD approach and trade/export promotion.

  • Perform any other duties as requested by the team leader and deputy team leader.

Requirements

  • First level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Business Administration, Business, Economics, International Development, or another relevant field.

  • Minimum three years of work experience in the private, public, or development sectors.

  • Experience with market systems development, private sector development, or private sector work is an advantage.

  • Experience in trade-related initiatives or export promotion is an advantage.

  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

  • Good knowledge of the market systems development approach.

  • Knowledge and experience with business models.

  • Strong research and analytical skills.

  • Political awareness and understanding of socio-economic dynamics.

  • Flexibility to adapt project activities to changing contexts.

  • Excellent drafting and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies.

  • Strong stakeholder relationship management.

  • Good organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new systems.

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate gender-sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour.
