About Embassy of Japan in Uganda

The Embassy of Japan in Uganda, located in the Nakasero diplomatic area of Kampala, serves as Japan’s official diplomatic mission in the country. It provides a wide range of services, including visa processing for tourism, business, study, and work, passport services for Japanese nationals, document legalization, and emergency assistance. The Embassy also plays a key role in promoting cultural exchange, development cooperation, and bilateral relations between Japan and Uganda. Open Monday through Friday, it operates standard office hours for general inquiries and specific hours for visa appointments. The mission is a central point for both Japanese citizens in Uganda and Ugandans seeking engagement with Japan, ensuring smooth diplomatic, consular, and cultural interactions.

Job Description

Commencement date of appointment: 25th February 2026

 

Period: until 31st March 2027 and renewable yearly

 

Probation period: Three (3) to Six (6) months

 

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 17:15 (Lunch break: 12:30-13:30) 

 

Benefits:


Monthly Salary (determined based on experience and ability)

 

Holidays (Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays stipulated by the Embassy (21 days a year for 2026))

Responsibilities

  • Processing visa applications
  • Visa screening and review.
  • Administrative procedures.
  • Handling telephone inquiries.
  • Responding to emails.
  • Emergency response.
  • Gathering information related to safety and security domestically and internationally.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Holding a Bachelor’s degree or above.
  • Ability to work in English and basic understanding of Japanese is highly preferred.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in office computer tools especially Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • Organizational skills, including task management and filing skills; communication skills including writing skills appropriate for drafting official correspondence and reports.
  • Tact and good judgment in dealing with the public, often under difficult and sensitive circumstances.
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Prior working experience in administrative/office position for at least 3 years.
  • Non-Ugandan applicants are required to have a valid work permit.
