About Plan International Uganda

Founded in 1937, Plan International is a development and humanitarian organisation that works together with children, young people, supporters and partners to strive for a just world, where we are all equal. To do this we tackle the root causes of the challenges and inequalities that children and young girls face. We’re there for children from birth until adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. To fulfil the promise of the 2030 Global Goals, our 5-year Global Strategy is designed to deliver significant change for girls and boys, putting a special emphasis on gender equality. We see clear links between fulfilling children’s rights, achieving gender equality and ending child poverty. Every girl and boy has the right to be healthy, educated, protected, valued and respected in their own community and beyond. We support these rights from when children are born to when they reach adulthood. We work to ensure that girls and boys know their rights, and have the skills, knowledge and confidence to fulfil them. This approach inspires and empowers children and communities to create long-lasting change.

Job Description

We’re seeking an experienced Social Media Lead to provide dedicated support to the Chief Executive Officer’s digital presence during a transition period across Global Affairs communications functions. You’ll ensure continuity, quality, and strategic consistency of the CEO’s short-form messaging while organisational communications service design work is underway.

Operating within the Executive Office and in close partnership with Global Affairs and External Communications teams, you will develop, draft, manage, and optimise CEO communications across priority digital channels translating leadership positioning, global events, and strategic priorities into timely, engaging executive messaging. This is an individual contributor role in a fast-moving, high‑visibility environment requiring sound judgement, discretion, and rapid responsiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an interim CEO social media positioning strategy (priority platforms, audience focus, balance of written/visual/video content).
  • Recommend innovative and emerging approaches to executive digital engagement (formats, storytelling, platform use).
  • Track performance using agreed analytics tools and share insights to inform optimisation.
  • Improve reach and engagement through testing, experimentation, and emerging practices.
  • Provide periodic summary insights to the Chief of Staff and relevant communications teams to support learning and future service design.
  • Plan, draft, and publish CEO social content across agreed platforms.
  • Translate CEO engagements, global events, and organisational priorities into concise, high‑impact messaging.
  • Maintain an executive content calendar aligned to key global moments and priority engagements.
  • Monitor social and news trends to identify timely opportunities for CEO positioning.
  • Maintain a library of reusable short-form messaging assets.
  • Provide ad hoc short-form executive writing support (brief digital messages, short statements, engagement summaries, rapid-turnaround copy).
  • Ensure CEO digital messaging aligns with organisational campaigns, policy positioning, and reputational priorities.
  • Coordinate approved inputs, data points, and stories from regions, countries, and global teams to strengthen messaging.
  • Document processes, tools, editorial approaches, and operational practices supporting CEO digital communications for smooth transition into the future service model.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing executive or organisational social media accounts (planning, publishing, performance tracking).
  • Excellent short-form writing and editing skills; ability to translate complex issues into concise, engaging digital messaging.
  • Experience developing or contributing to digital/social strategies and applying analytics to optimise performance.
  • Strong understanding of platforms, audience engagement, and emerging content formats, including video-led storytelling.
  • Experience in fast-paced communications environments requiring rapid turnaround and sound judgement.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders in complex or global organisations.
  • Practical experience creating and editing short-form video content using accessible tools.
  • High discretion, judgement, and political awareness supporting senior leadership communications.
  • Experience in international development, humanitarian, policy, or advocacy environments.
  • Experience supporting C‑suite or senior leadership communications.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics, listening, and scheduling tools.
  • Additional language skills (especially French or Spanish).
