Job Description

Ecobank is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate to fill the position of a Senior Credit Analyst

Responsibilities

  • Support product and coverage teams in the execution of sound transactions from origination to closing.
  • Review and structure loans within the requirements of the Group CIB Credit Policy and Procedures, working closely with Client Coverage Solutions (CCS) to serve Global, Regional and High Local Corporates), as well as public sector clients. 
  • Conduct research and perform detailed financial and credit analyses required in the execution of complex transactions in a wide array of sectors.
  • Build financial models and develop appropriate credit metrics in accordance with the nature and level of complexity of deals under review. 
  • Prepare financial spreads and generate obligor risk ratings using in-house applications (ORR, Credit Lens, RAROC, EVA, etc.) during credit underwriting.
  • Prepare internal credit papers (Credit approval request, Greenlight Memos, CA packages) in accordance with the Group CIB Credit Policy and Procedures. 
  • Support the CCS and product teams in credit submissions to affiliates’ business credit committees and boards, as well as the bank’s senior credit officers and other approvers.
  • Ensure transactions are carried out through the credit approval process in a timely manner, and all the way to booking thereafter.
  • Support coverage teams and syndication officers on interactions with Ecobank affiliates, financial institutions and other stakeholders, during the structuring and negotiation of risk-shared loans, syndicated debt and club deals.
  • Build sector expertise over time and develop loan structuring capabilities in more sophisticated credit products such as limited recourse financing, asset-based lending, structured finance, and acquisition finance in a wide range of industries.
  • Work closely with the CCS, Product, Risk, CAD, Legal and back-office functions during the closing process, gathering the required signoffs on the final credit packages, following up on the legal drafting of finance and security documents, as well as the satisfaction of conditions precedents, security perfection, and the issuance of disbursement memos.
  • Support in the processing of loan disbursements and repayments throughout the life of the credit. 
  • Demonstrate a superior understanding of the CIB Credit Policy and Procedures and ensure its compliance during the loan execution and monitoring process.
  • Provide ad-hoc support for the Commercial and Consumer Banking divisions upon request or in accordance with a service level agreement.
  • Work on the annual review of outstanding credit exposures in the CIB loan book, by drafting annual/interim review documents and credit packages.
  • Ensure annual reviews are done on time and report on expired CAs if any.
  • Provide support in the periodic monitoring of credit exposures in our books. This includes financial covenant calculations, the review of borrower undertakings, updating cash flow projections and other tasks. 
  • Issue information memos to the Risk department in case of covenant breach or material adverse event on a loan.
  • Ensure collateral valuations are maintained up-to-date and alert the Relationship Manager, senior business management and Risk Management of any shrinkage in values. 
  • Prepare Classified Credit Memorandums (CCM) and Classified Loan Management Reports (CLMR) for credits classified IA through IIA, and where applicable obtain the required credit approval.
  • Participate to “watch list” meetings with CCS, Product, Risk and Remedial teams.
  • Support in the execution of agency and security agency mandates. 
  • Support in the tracking and daily updating of the deal pipeline
  • Work on the annual review of outstanding credit exposures in the CIB loan book, by drafting annual/interim review documents and credit packages.
  • Ensure annual reviews are done on time and report on expired CAs if any.
  • Provide support in the periodic monitoring of credit exposures in our books. This includes financial covenant calculations, the review of borrower undertakings, updating cash flow projections and other tasks.

  • Contribute to the design of the LSD monthly report, tracking revenues against budget and other performance KPIs relative to the product.
  • Help build and grow the loan revenues and profit as per agreed budget targets and through strong collaboration and synergies between Coverage, Risk and Products teams.
  • Contribute to periodic deal pipeline calls, update transaction statuses weekly and follow-up on the credit approval process for all loans in the pipeline.
  • Support in the tracking of the turnaround time (TAT) at each stage of a loan execution process.
  • Coach and train junior credit analysts.
  • Help with special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in finance, financial engineering, Business Administration, Mathematics & Statistics, or related field of study.
  • At least 5 years of experience in loan Structuring, Credit Analysis, cash flow modelling, preferably in Corporate Banking, Investment Banking, Consulting, capital markets or Private Equity.
  • Experience in deal execution across a wide array of industries.
  • Good understanding of credit products including term loans, revolving credit facilities, trade finance and other instruments.
