BRAC started microfinance in Uganda in 2006, as a part of BRAC Uganda’s social development programmes. It transformed into a Tier II Credit Institution i.e. BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd in 2019. BRAC Uganda Bank Ltd has the largest branch network (footprint) in the country, providing inclusive financial services to low-income communities predominantly women and a girl child who live in rural and hard-to-reach communities to enable them to build sustainable livelihoods. Our core credit products include a group-based microloan provided exclusively to women, and small enterprise loans for entrepreneurs seeking to expand their businesses. We also offer three types of savings products: Flex Save, a transactional account for borrowers and mid-to-low-income households; Wise Save, for formal and informal entrepreneurs, and salary-earners who wish to accumulate savings for a specific purpose; and Safe Save, for community-based savings and credit groups.

Job Description

To develop, implement and monitor the Bank’s Business Growth strategy in line with organizational goals and objectives whilst ensuring that the strategy is successfully generating and contributing to the growth of BRAC Uganda Bank Limited’s Assets and Liabilities

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Business Growth Strategy to achieve the Bank’s strategic objectives in alignment with the mission and vision of the bank.

  • Develop strategic collaborative partnerships to maximize and add value to the growth of the bank while mitigating the risks and exposure of its target market.

  • Ensure that the strategy, business plans, and budgets along with the policies and procedures are timely communicated to the respective staff and other stakeholders.

  • Monitor departmental performance against the strategic plans, clearly identifying performance gaps and supporting management team members to put in place plans to address those gaps.

  • Drive initiatives to maximize cross-selling opportunities for the benefit of the bank in an effective and efficient manner.

  • Deliver on overall management of departmental operations ensuring growth of the loan book and portfolio quality management.

  • Drive the management of BUBL credit processes end to end — from customer recruitment, loan processing or underwriting, credit information review and reporting, recovery, all functions providing lending support in the department, and formulation of loan policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the overall good quality of BUBL’s lending portfolio.

  • Conduct relevant market intelligence and competitor analysis to ensure timely interventions and strategies to drive growth of the bank’s assets and liabilities.

  • Spearhead BUBL’s expansion into new strategic markets and implement go-to-market strategies targeting market segments that result in quantifiable business support initiatives in alignment with BUBL objectives.

  • Develop deposit mobilization strategy and plans to grow the deposit base, increase customer numbers, enhance relationship management, improve customer experience, and leverage delivery channels and technological innovations.

  • Drive innovation and implement digital delivery channels to develop and deliver outstanding products, enhance customer experience, increase organizational efficiency, and find the right balance between technology and human interaction for BUBL’s customers.

  • Think creatively and implement new uses for technology to address access, usage, literacy, security, and other barriers faced by BUBL’s customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related fields.

  • At least ten (10) years of banking experience, five (5) of which should be at management level.

  • A Master’s degree is an added advantage.

  • Experience in a microfinance financial institution.

  • Proven track record of developing strategies, policies, systems, and procedures for the delivery of customer service in a financial institution.

  • Knowledge of Ugandan banking regulations and statutory requirements.

  • Strong networking skills.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Ability to lead people in multidisciplinary and multicultural team settings.

  • Strong time management and adherence to timelines.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Ability to formulate concepts and strategies.
