Job Description

C Care Uganda is seeking a Medical Officer to work as an in-house Medical Officer responsible for clinical care of patients in these units, wards or clinics and
ensuring an efficient, effective and profitable medical service 

Responsibilities

  • To carry out conclusive diagnoses and treatment based on comprehensive history taking and examination of patients following IHK protocols and thorough but appropriate investigations (e.g., lab tests, imaging, etc.).

  • To be fully conversant with the hospital and/or health center facilities and systems, including the corresponding charges and fees.

  • To follow up on all cases, ensuring that lab tests, imaging, further consultations, and medical attention are properly completed and followed through.

  • To provide OPD cover as required, ensuring that all patients are attended to without unnecessary delays and regularly checking the patients’ card box to avoid waiting times.

  • To be well-versed with medical equipment and know how to use and maintain it.

  • To liaise with external medical service providers for any relevant information regarding patients.

  • To liaise with specialists for proper management of referred patients or consultations for IHK patients.

  • To instruct or train junior medical staff on issues related to patient management, such as triage and patient handling.

  • To keep up to date with current medical practices through regular CME attendance, presentations, and reading. (Note: CME sessions are held every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. in the Boardroom, and online CMEs are held monthly.)

  • To review ambulance cases as required to ensure adequate and uninterrupted care of patients in transit.

  • To understand policies on charges and health schemes (e.g., scope of cover), clearly fill out insurance claim forms, and ensure that treatment stays within the client’s entitlements.

  • To continually assess existing systems and suggest improvements where necessary.

  • To provide ward cover as required, ensuring comprehensive patient management and maintaining clear written records in patient files.

  • To conduct regular and comprehensive ward rounds as required when on duty.

  • To prepare comprehensive reports and personally hand over to the next Medical Officer on shift before leaving duty.

  • To perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time. 

Requirements

  • A medical degree from a recognized and reputable institution, an Annual Practicing License, and a Registration Certificate.

  • Registration as a medical practitioner or eligibility for registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.

  • At least one year of professional experience after completing the internship.

  • Ability to work long hours, often under pressure.

  • Good practical skills.

  • Ability to solve problems.

  • Effective decision-making skills.

  • Leadership and management skills.

  • Communication skills, compassion, and a good bedside manner.

  • Drive to continue learning throughout one’s career.
