About East African Carbon Company

East African Carbon Company (EACC) is a public-private catalyst, working in alignment with Uganda’s national climate agenda to establish a high-integrity, community-driven carbon market. Through partnerships with the Government of Uganda, EACC supports climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and rural economic development. Our work transforms Uganda’s natural landscapes—forests, wetlands, and degraded lands—into engines of prosperity and sustainability.

Job Description

Earths Work LLC is seeking a Forestry/Ecology Manager to lead ecological assessments and forest carbon inventories for large-scale nature-based carbon projects (REDD+, reforestation, agroforestry) in Uganda. This role is critical for ensuring scientific accuracy in carbon stock measurements, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land management practices. You will work closely with carbon methodology experts, GIS specialists, and local communities to deliver high-integrity projects that align with Verra VCS, Gold Standard, and CCB requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in forest carbon projects, tropical ecology, or sustainable forest management.

  • Proven expertise in Forest inventory techniques (permanent sample plots, biomass equations), Biodiversity assessments (flora/fauna surveys, habitat mapping), Uganda’s/Sub-Sahara  forest ecosystems (e.g., tropical rainforests, woodlands, mangroves).

  • Familiarity with carbon standards (VCS, Gold Standard, CCB) is a plus.

  • Master’s or PhD in Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related fields.

  • Certifications in forest carbon accounting or biodiversity conservation (e.g., CFCC, FSC) are advantageous.

  • Examples of past carbon project documents  (e.g., forest inventory reports, biodiversity assessments), if available.

  • Ensures accuracy in data collection and reporting.

  • Addresses ecological challenges (e.g., degraded land restoration).

  • Works effectively with scientists, communities, and policymakers.

  • Thrives in rugged field conditions and dynamic project environments.

  • Committed to climate action and community-led conservation.
