About Mengo Hospital

Mengo Hospital is a private not for profit health institution (PNFP). It is a missionary Hospital and the pioneer hospital in Uganda and East Africa and large,  It was started by Dr. Sir Albert Ruskin Cook on 22nd February 1897 and celebrating 124 years of providing quality holistic and modern health care. Mengo Hospital is located along Sir Albert Cook Road in Mengo town on Namirembe hill. Mengo has a bed capacity of over 250 beds. The Hospital is governed by a constitution, first written in 1956, amended and reprinted in 1966 and has been brought up to date from time to time, the latest being adopted in 2015.It is firmly established that Mengo Hospital is owned by the Church of Uganda, has its Patron as the sitting Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda and has all the sitting Bishops of the Church of Uganda as Trustees. Its governing body is the Board of Governors supported by the Hospital Management Team (HMT)

Job Description

Mengo Hospital is offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and detail-oriented Cashier to join their team. Responsibilities

  • Receive payments from patients and clients through cash, mobile money, Visa, FlexiPay, or other approved channels.

  • Issue official receipts for all payments in the hospital financial system.

  • Verify that amount received corresponds with billing statement.

  • Maintain accurate daily transaction records and reconcile collections against funds.

  • Ensure that all cash and electronic collections are intact, secure, and properly accounted for.

  • Post deposits in case books upon admission of patients, ensuring that records are updated.

  • Handover daily collections, with reconciliation reports, to the Chief Cashier in accordance with hospital policy.

  • Support patient inquiries regarding bills or receipts courteously and professionally.

  • Safeguard cash at all times and ensure it is not left unattended.

  • Report any discrepancies, shortages, or suspected fraud immediately to the supervisor or Finance Director.

  • Support audits and financial reviews by ensuring proper documentation and accountability.

  • Perform other duties as may become necessary for the smooth running of the Department and the Hospital as a whole.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience in cashiering, preferably in a hospital or healthcare environment.

  • Familiarity with accounting systems, hospital billing software, or mobile money platforms is an added advantage.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, BCOM, BBA, or any other Finance-related discipline.

  • High integrity and accountability in handling funds.

  • Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills.

  • Excellent self-management skills.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure with accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Computer literacy (MS Excel, accounting or billing systems).

  • Commitment to confidentiality and hospital financial policies.
