Job Description

We are seeking a Relationship Manager to drive the growth of Trade Finance income (funded and non-funded) across the network. This job requires collaboration with different teams including branches to mobilize customers who are in trade business (internally or cross boarder).

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate new business opportunities and generate revenue for the Bank in line with set targets.

  • Maintain and grow business relationships with existing and prospective customers.

  • Monitor designated account portfolios to effectively manage overall credit risks.

  • Provide on-the-job coaching and support to subordinates.

  • Oversee Trade Finance operations and drive growth, performance, and revenue.

  • Identify training needs, deliver coaching, and provide feedback to help staff reach their full potential.

  • Develop business opportunities and monitor activities in line with the Bank’s long-term strategic and annual business plans, ensuring competitiveness and responsiveness to market changes and customer needs.

  • Implement a focused relationship-management approach to increase business flow, generate deposits, grow lending portfolios, and boost revenues in line with the Bank’s enterprise strategy.

  • Maintain strong controls and monitoring systems to build a high-quality asset book through adherence to the Bank’s Credit Policy, Bank of Uganda guidelines, and all applicable legal provisions for lending and Trade & Working Capital Solutions.

  • Apply strategic marketing principles by developing competitive advantages in a dynamic marketplace and leveraging the Bank’s capabilities to drive value.

  • Enhance value creation through solutions that deliver meaningful benefits to customers, shareholders, and partners.

  • Develop innovative solutions delivered through branches and digital channels in response to market needs and identified gaps.

  • Collaborate with branches and other commercial teams to conduct customer marketing events aimed at increasing the Bank’s wallet share.

  • Drive capacity-building initiatives through training on Trade & Working Capital Solutions products.

  • Lead and drive high levels of customer engagement.

  • Build a strong base of customer promoters by enhancing positive experiences and advocacy, supporting competitive advantage and organic growth.

  • Design and continuously improve differentiated customer experiences tailored to target customer needs and aligned with brand touchpoints.

  • Periodically review existing products using customer feedback and market trends to ensure relevance and continued utilization—driving customer-led propositions.

  • Promote the Bank’s business through maintaining strong customer relations and directing clients to relevant services.

  • Ensure adherence to established service level agreements (SLAs) at all customer touchpoints.

  • Process requests for short-term excesses in collaboration with the Credit Risk unit and ensure proper authorization.

  • Work with the Branch Credit Manager/Branch Manager to ensure seamless delivery of operational and banking services to trade clients.

  • Conduct daily monitoring of all trade borrowers’ account operations.

  • Review covenants and other conditions monthly to ensure full compliance.

  • Ensure all terms and conditions in approved credit facilities and offer letters are adhered to.

  • Maintain updated client registers and databases for effective contact management.

  • Complete renewals or reviews of outstanding loans at least 90 days before expiry.

  • Drive the achievement of performance targets and budgets for the Trade Finance unit.

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of corporate and trade clients.

  • Prepare performance and portfolio reports as required.

  • Originate high-quality loans to meet individual and unit targets.

  • Submit periodic reports of all loans approved or disbursed to ExCom.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of Trade Finance products (Letters of Credit, Guarantees, Collections, Working Capital solutions).

  • Excellent customer relationship management and business development skills.

  • Strong credit analysis and risk assessment abilities.

  • Good knowledge of Bank of Uganda regulations, compliance, and bank credit policies.

  • Advanced report writing, presentation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to coach, guide, and support branch teams.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strategic thinker with ability to identify market opportunities.

  • Results-oriented with ability to meet targets and deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams.

  • Ability to make sound decisions based on risk and business value.
