About FHI360

FHI 360 works with the Uganda Ministry of Health (MOH) and Office of the Prime Minister to implement national policies, guidelines and tools that expand access to and the quality of maternal, newborn and child health services. As an implementing partner on the U.S Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Uganda Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition Activity, FHI 360 works with the MOH to improve maternal and child health and nutrition outcomes by supporting the health care system in developing and implementing policies, guidelines and interventions; increasing the use of data to guide program design and implementation; facilitating knowledge-sharing to document and share best practices; and strengthening coordination and linkages across government sectors to improve collaboration and efficiency. Our experts have also conducted research to inform the development of new ways to increase access to contraceptives and have played a key role in the expansion of injectable contraceptives.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Project Manager to support the Project Director/Chief of Party in overseeing and implementing projects in a compliant, efficient, and results-oriented manner. The role requires strong leadership, financial management, and project oversight skills, as well as extensive experience in international development and NGO environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Director/Chief of Party to ensure timely, compliant, and results-driven project implementation.
  • Lead the management of systems, services, staff, and budgets to achieve organizational and donor goals.
  • Oversee preparation, monitoring, and approval of project budgets and expenditures.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial and programmatic reports to management and donors.
  • Review and contribute to the writing of project protocols, papers, and reports for accuracy and relevance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify new project opportunities and funding sources.
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, and support project staff to achieve programmatic and workforce planning objectives.
  • Develop and monitor structured work plans, indicator tracking sheets, and approved monitoring frameworks.
  • Ensure monthly expenditure monitoring and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  • Provide strong leadership to guarantee high-quality, compliant reporting in line with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Mentor, coach, and support staff development, fostering both accountability and capacity building.
  • Support performance management of direct reports, including career guidance and professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or its International Equivalent in Business Administration, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 10–12 years of relevant project management experience, preferably within international development or NGO sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project planning, financial oversight, compliance, and team leadership.
  • Proven track record of managing donor-funded projects, including adherence to regulations, reporting, and budget management.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent financial and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural and international contexts.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to capacity building and staff development.
