Uganda Wildlife Authority, (UWA) manages 10 National Parks; 12 Wildlife reserves; 5 Community Wildlife Management Areas; and 13 Wildlife Sanctuaries. The ten National Parks include Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Kibale, Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountains, Semuliki, Mgahinga Gorilla, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks. These parks display the best in East Africa. Job Description

To provide specialized Laboratory services in wildlife health management.

 

Reports to: Laboratory Technologist

Department: Veterinary Services

Salary scale: UWA 06

Supervises: None

No. of vacancies: Three (3)

Contract duration: Four (4) years 

Responsibilities

  • Collecting and examining animal samples and reporting the results.

  • Referring samples to other labs and ensuring that protocols are followed.

  • Breeding and training lab animals for research and science education programs.

  • Carrying out science education activities using laboratory animals.

  • Establishing a database of necropsy results and creating a system for storing tissue sections.

  • Undertaking research and project activities.

  • Collaborating in breeding programs and learning initiatives.

  • Preparing work plans and budgets for laboratory requirements.

  • Developing wildlife laboratory standard operating procedures and guidelines.

  • Establishing a repository system for animal tissues and processed slides for future reference.
